Our Goals
Our team of lawyers and volunteers aim to assist people of refugee background, people seeking asylum and humanitarian entrants with all aspects of migration law. As the TRLS expands we will continue to broaden our services to meet the needs of our clients in Tasmania.

Education
TRLS will facilitate and provide a range of education services to case workers, clients and community based organisations. Our aim is to both assist refugees, and educate the community about our human rights obligations to refugees, and how we can all assist. Legal and immigration clinics are an integral aspect of the TRLS and resources and documents are developed and distributed in line with changes to immigration policy and case law.

Confidentiality
We treat your situation with the delicacy and confidentiality it deserves. TRLS is a completely independent group of lawyers and migration agents. All personal information received by TRLS is treated in accordance with professional privilege, relevant State and Commonwealth legislation and TRLS’s own policies and procedures.

TRLS History
A steering committee of interested persons was formed in June 2013 with the intention of establishing the Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service (TRLS). On 13 November 2013 the Refugee Legal Service (Tas) Inc. was incorporated. The TRLS’s board comprises lawyers, migration agents, law students and other professionals with professional or voluntary experience, all with a philanthropic interest of working and supporting people of refugee background, humanitarian entrants and people seeking asylum.
