Every quarter our lawyers travel up to Launceston and run family reunification clinics where community members who are seeking to bring family to safety in Tasmania can receive one-on-one free legal advice.
Last month, a number of clients mostly from the Afghan community, received free legal advice to help start or progress their family reunification applications. We met with a young lady wanting to give her nephew currently living in a refugee camp a new life, and a mother of 6 trying to save her sister from persecution by the Taliban.
A common thread that links these clients is the heavy burden they carry being here in Tasmania, safe, while they worry every day for their family’s safety.
These clinics are part of our commitment to make our expertise more accessible to the refugee community in the north. We would like to thank our partner, Cape Hope Foundation, who provided the funding for this March clinic. Their vision is for a northern Tasmania that is connected and caring, which strongly aligns with the goal of these clinics. Thank you for helping us make this happen.
