Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service
Dear friends and supporters of Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service (‘TRLS’),
This year has been a year of great uncertainty and upheaval across the world.
Our work can protect some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community and change the lives of people who are often left behind or left out of the benefits that many of us take for granted.
Legal assistance is the primary focus for many asylum seekers and their families in Tasmania. It is legal assistance that allows our clients to stay in Tasmania in safety and without fear, and it is legal assistance that reunites desperate families who are stuck in conflicts overseas.
Our service provides people with protection from persecution, safety from family violence, and a pathway to reuniting with family. The Service provides expert free legal advice and representation to people who need a safe place where they can rebuild their lives with dignity and care and with a sense of belonging.
As crises escalate globally and reverberate deeply here rights and lives are endangered by the day.
More than ever before our work is so vital for the Tasmanian community and provides solutions for our clients and has resulted in many people being granted permanent residency.
It is essential that Tasmania has a free refugee legal service, and you can do something to make a real difference to people’s lives.
This year we have been able to help many people to safety in so many ways including:
We will continue to fight fearlessly for principled and humane policies that will make a direct difference in changing the course of many Tasmanians’ lives for the better.
Amongst the many needs of people seeking protection from persecution, their greatest need is the legal permission to stay – to secure safety and rebuild their lives with dignity and to reunite with family members. We genuinely believe that everyone should have a safe place to live and a safe way to get there.
Amidst this, we are launching our End of Financial Year Appeal.
